This single shot muzzle loading, Model 1841 Mississippi rifle was manufactured at the Harpers Ferry arsenal in 1853.
Barrel is 33” long with a surface that is smooth and semi bright with darker spotting scattered overall. The rear sight is a notch while the front is a small brass blade. “853” date visible on breech tang. Viewer and proof stamps are lightly visible. Bore has great rifling with light pitting in grooves. Original nipple.
Lock is clearly stamped “HARPERS / FERRY / 1853” behind the hammer. A worn eagle and “US” are stamped in front of the hammer. Action works well.
Wood stock is in good condition. There are small dings and dents consistent with age and use but no cracks. There is a 1/2” gouge on the flat opposite the lock. No inspector’s cartouches are visible. Right side of the butt has the brass patch box which when open reveals inspector’s initials as well as a drilled hole for an extra nipple.
All furniture is brass and exhibits a light patina. Both iron sling swivels are present. The ramrod is full length with threaded tip. Butt plate tang is unmarked. A solid Mississippi Rifle. [jet]
