Model 1842, .69 caliber musket manufactured at Harpers Ferry. The barrel is a full 42” in length and in overall nice smooth condition. Pitting around breech and bolster area as is to be expected. A strong 1854 date on the breech tang. Viewer and proof marks remain clearly stamped on left breech. Inspector’s initials show wear. Smoothbore. The original ramrod is present; threaded end worn down.

The hammer and lock plate are in good condition. The US stamp is strong while the eagle shows some wear. “HARPERS / FERRY / 1854” is strongly stamped behind the hammer. All metal parts: barrel bands, band springs, trigger guard, butt plate, and swivels are present. Gun metal is bright; butt plate and trigger guard show some dark spotting.

The walnut stock is very fine condition; very few dings or scratches. A single oval cartouche is visible on left flat. A rack number, “138” is stamped there also.

This is a nice, clean Model 1842.   [jet]
