Cal. 58 “Mason” produced by William Mason and made in Tontine, Mass., total quantity 30,000. The lock surface is a dusky gunmetal gray finish. Markings “EAGLE” and” U.S. / Wm MASON / TAUNTON, and the date “1863”are very sharp. Crisp working lockwork. All other iron surfaces are an untouched dusky gunmetal gray patina. Barrel markings are VP / Eagle and 1863. Bore has good rifling with light pitting. The stock is dark with scattered nicks and scratches. Two cartouches are visible. The rear sight is complete and functional and the ramrod is original. Lockplate is tight and crisp.
