Cal. 58 produced by Providence Tool Company and made in Providence, Rhode Island. They made a total quantity of 70,000 between 1862 and 1865. Markings of U. (eagle motif) S. /PROVIDENCE TOOL CO / PROVIDENCE R I. and the Date (1864) to the rear of the lock. Barrel marks “VP/ Eagle”, and “1864” at the end of the barrel. All stampings are sharp and crisp. The lock surface is a semi-bright dusky gunmetal gray. All other iron parts have the same matching patina. The rear sight is complete and functional. The ramrod is original. Bore has good rifling remaining but is dark with some pitting and the barrel has been crowned. The stock is dark and has numerous some small nicks from years of handling. Initials carved deeply into the left side. Two cartouches are still visible. Action is tight and crisp.
