70,000 Model 1795 Muskets were manufactured at Harpers Ferry between 1800 and 1815. Common to all Harpers Ferry production is: Iron locks, rounded pans, short straight toe and beveled edged hammer. Earlier were not serial numbered. Four easily major classifications or “types” are identified.

Type III’s have rounded finials on the trigger. Eagle on the lock is smaller. Stocks are made thicker and heavier. HARPERS FERRY and markings and date at rear of lock are in smaller block type letters. Barrel is proofed with eaglehead, P and U.S. Lug for socket type bayonet is top on the barrel. Sling swivel is one-piece welded. Production is 1812 to 1816.

This is an 1816 dated flintlock with OHIO markings on the barrel denoting usage of the Ohio militia. Bore is dark and pitted. Barrel is 43 ½ inches in length.  Markings are sharp and crisp. Patina is a nice brown uncleaned finish. Wood is in excellent condition.
