This Pattern 1839 oval US belt plate was purchased at a local estate sale on Rake Factory Road which is a side street off of the Carlisle Pike approx. 5 miles north of Gettysburg.
The face of the plate is in nice used condition with numerous small scratches and a few tiny dings. All is consistent with use. The “U” and the “S” are outlined with what looks to be residue from a cleaning solution however the face has not been cleaned recently. It has a nice light patina.
The reverse has both of the arrow hooks and tongue, as well as 100% of the lead fill. The surface of the lead is scratched throughout.
Item comes with a small envelope in which the plate was stored. On the envelope’s exterior are notes relating to where and when plate was purchased. This is a recent find.
This is a nice used looking belt plate with Gettysburg provenance.
