This is the base of a 3-inch shell that still retains the iron ring sabot. Fragment is the entire base of the shell with hints of the bursting cavity at top. Surfaces are rusted as is the sabot.

This item was recovered years ago by the late John Cullison east of the stone wall that borders the famous “Wheatfield” at Gettysburg. The item passed from Mr. Cullison to the Rosensteel Family Collection of Gettysburg artifacts who deaccessioned it long ago.
