$495.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 458-220

The face of this plate has a mixed light green and brown patina and is in otherwise good condition. There is only one visible freeze crack and it is very slight. It runs from about the 1 o’clock position toward the center and is barely noticeable. The raised area of the eagle is dark with the green in the lower areas. The edge has no nicks or chips.

The reverse has 98% of the lead fill with just a small amount missing off the surface. Both hooks are gone. Maker mark on back clearly reads “BOYD & SONS BOSTON.”

Plate was recovered just west of Gettysburg near the bridge over Marsh Creek along Route 116 (Fairfield Road) which was the Confederate retreat route. This road was also used by Union forces during the pursuit of the defeated Confederates.
