This Model 1808 cartridge box is in relic condition. The box is complete except for the wood block which held the cartridges. The leather of the box is very dry and stiff and has a good bit of surface dirt. Only two seams are still holding. One is a side seam while the other is the front bottom. The large outer flap is complete with an intact latch tab sewn to the underside bottom. The interior has remains of the implement pocket. The underside has a round leather finial and one roller buckle still attached with a small piece of the white buff leather sling still present. The other buckle is present but loose. The reverse has both the sling loops one of which is stamped “C 34” in two lines. Also present is the lower tin of the box. This is somewhat rusted and one side piece has bent inward.
This relic was part of the well-known Rosensteel Family Collection and was part of the Gettysburg National Park collection until deaccessioned.
