RELIC BARREL FROM A COOK & BROTHERS CONFEDERATE CARBINE RECOVERED IN THE WHEATFIELD AT GETTYSBURG

$895.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: R21673

Ferdinand W. C. and Francis Cook were Englishmen who produced firearms of the British Enfield pattern for the Confederacy.  They were forced to leave New Orleans in 1862 with the approach of the Northern troops and eventually settled in Athens, Georgia where they resumed production. They manufactured an artillery musketoon, a cavalry carbine and an infantry rifle with each one having a barrel of differing lengths.

The cavalry carbine had a 21.00 inch long barrel and that is the length of this relic. The barrel is complete except for a small piece of the tang being chipped off. The nipple is gone but the original rear sight remains. The entire body of the iron barrel is pitted with light surface rust,R otherwise the item is very solid.

This relic was recovered by the late John Cullison in the Wheatfield at Gettysburg and passed by him to the Rosensteel Family Collection of Gettysburg relics where it remained for many years until released by a member of the family.
