Excellent condition untouched CS Cap Box of russet brown leather. Has typical single belt loop that measures approx. 2” x 3”. The stitching along the edge is missing. Large thick brass finial firmly in place. Outer flap has a geometric design inside a circle, about the size of a quarter. Inner flap has both “ears” attached, inside fleece is missing. Has a very small hole at top of outer flap and through top belt loop.

From the estate of Samuel Harner who died in 2001; he was a lifelong farmer and a resident of Taneytown, MD. He lived on the family farm all of his life, on Diehl Road east of Taneytown. The family story is that Sam’s father, Wade, who lived from 1883-1970, told the story that his father Mathew Harner (1841-1900) traveled on the Taneytown Road after the Battle of Gettysburg in 1863 and found these souvenirs. They were kept in the family until The Horse Soldier purchased them in December 2015.

Included in the group is a brown leather cigar case. Embossed with a seal with “LONDON”. Leather in excellent condition; measures 4 ¼” x 2 5/8”. Also included is a small leather pad with a simple belt loop. Small piece of leather folded over and sewn along the edge; possibly a pad to protect against a sword hilt. Measures 3 ¼” x 1 ¼”.

Group comes with a notarized statement from the family.
