Remains of a brass 3 inch U.S. Schenkl percussion fuse adapter that burst when it was fired. Relic has not been cleaned and shows moderate surface oxidation.
This item was recovered in the Culp’s Hill area by noted local relic hunter John Cullison, who excavated relics on the battlefield from 1935-1959; Cullison sold his collection to the famed Gettysburg Rosensteel family, who held the primary collection of Gettysburg artifacts.
