Hotchkiss canister round in very good condition. Tin body is intact without any dents. Nice crimped edges on the top with some minor surface rust on the top plate. Lead sabot exhibits clearly legible patent information in raised letters: “HOTCHKISS 3 IN. JAN’Y 7. 1862 PATENT”.
This round was once part of the local Gettysburg Rosensteel Family collection, from the Little Round Top Museum. The Little Round Top Museum was owned by John H. Rosensteel. As a small boy, John had lived through the battle and began collecting relics as soon as it ended, if not before. When the museum closed many of the artifacts were transferred to the Electric Map display at the National Park. Mr. Rosensteel kept a few pieces to pass down in the family
Overall a very fine example of a complete canister round in good condition.
