Uncleaned nose and body portion of a US Hotchkiss shell in dug condition. No base cup, and no sabot. Fuse plug remains in place and would have taken a paper time fuse. Three flame grooves are visible along the body of the shell. Surface shows moderate to heavy rust and pitting. Recovered from Gettysburg on the Daniel Lady farm, near the creek bed.  [jt]
