This section of shell is the bottom conical shaped portion of a US 3-inch Schenkl shell. Section meas. approx. 6.00 inches long. Surfaces are uncleaned and there is some minor chipping.
Fairfield Pennsylvania was the site of a lot of cavalry activity during the Gettysburg campaign as well as a good sized skirmish on July 3rd, 1863. It also saw some action during the retreat from Gettysburg. [ad]
