This is a .58 caliber, 3-groove “minie” that was fired and struck a tree, with the profile of the ball visible. Remaining portion of wood is approximately 3” long x 1 3/4” wide. Remaining wood is solid. Recovered in the 1960s, in woods southeast slope of Culp’s Hill at Gettysburg.

This relic was once part of the Iva Rosensteel collection. Mrs. Rosensteel is the sister of George Rosensteel, who started the Electric Map museum in Gettysburg. Eventually, it became a part of the Rider collection in Gettysburg, which remained in the family until The Horse Soldier purchased the collection in June 2016.   [jet]
