This is an excavated friction primer. It is unused and complete. The brass is strong and the priming wire is intact. Nice brown/green patina. Recovered in the 1960s, near C.S. artillery position west of Confederate Avenue and south of the Virginia Memorial at Gettysburg.

This relic was once part of the Iva Rosensteel collection. Mrs. Rosensteel is the sister of George Rosensteel, who started the Electric Map museum in Gettysburg. Eventually, it became a part of the Rider collection in Gettysburg, which remained in the family until The Horse Soldier purchased the collection in June 2016.  [jet]
