This is a piece of wood cut into a small shield shape that meas. approx. 1.50 wide x 1.75 long x 0.50 inch thick. The surface of the wood has been painted light blue and a .69 three ring minie ball has been screwed down on the center, point up. Above the base of the bullet is “GETTYSBURG, PA.” stamped in white ink. The wood is in good condition and the bullet is a nice dropped example.
This item dates from the 1950’s and represents the types of souvenirs sold at the Electric Map Museum during that period. This specimen comes right from the Rosensteel family’s personal collection and was directly obtained from a family member. The Rosensteel family was the creators and proprietors of the Electric Map Museum in Gettysburg and their collection formed the basis for the present Gettysburg National Military Park collection.
