This mainspring is for the Model 1861 rifle musket. Spring has surface rust and pitting.
Willoughby Run is a tributary of Marsh Creek. This shallow stream bordered the Edward McPherson Farm on the Chambersburg Pike. Fighting occurred here on the first day of the battle of Gettysburg on July 1, 1863. Relics were recovered from this area where a golf course once was located. [SM]
