This was used to plug the barrel of the weapon at the muzzle to keep moisture and dirt from getting in the bore. Item is the brass tip that would fit on a cork body.
Willoughby Run is a tributary of Marsh Creek. This shallow stream bordered the Edward McPherson Farm on the Chambersburg Pike. Fighting occurred here on the first day of the battle of Gettysburg on July 1, 1863. Relics were recovered from this area where a golf course once was located. [SM]
