This Model 1859 cavalry horse bit is complete with both “O” rings, the curb chain and both brass “US” bosses. All surfaces are covered with a light rust and dirt while the bosses have a nice untouched patina. Item has never been cleaned.

Just below one of the rear keepers is a clearly visible maker’s mark that reads “STARBUCK BROS. / TROY N.Y.”

This bit was found in a barn in the Gettysburg area by the late John Cullison and was passed to the Rosensteel family and was part of their collection until released for sale 30 or so years ago.  [ad]
