These small wooden dough trays were made by the Jennie Wade House Museum and sold as souvenirs in memory of the only Gettysburg civilian killed during the battle. This tray is a little bigger than those usually encountered. It meas. approx. 4.75 inches long x 2.75 inches wide x 2.25 inches high. The piece comes with a detachable lid and is stamped on one side with black ink lettering that reads “HOUSE WHERE JENNIE WADE WAS KILLED/JULY 1, 2, 3, 1863/GETTYSBURG”. The first line of later versions of this souvenir will read simply “JENNIE WADE HOUSE” but this one has an earlier stamping.
Piece is in good condition with no chips or cracks. There are some markings in pencil on the underside of the lid – “PROPERTY of / Edith W. Selling [?] / Y. H. S. ‘23”, along with some other scribbling. [sl/ld]
