A nicely colored celluloid button reading, “Semi-Centennial Celebration of the Battle of Gettysburg June 29th to July 6th 1913.” Draped U.S. flags at the top and sides, with superimposed bust portraits of Lee and Meade, frame an armed Confederate and Yankee soldier reaching out to shake hands. The button is mounted on three, narrow red, white and blue ribbons. The white ribbon shows just a slight bit of fraying at the end. Otherwise the condition and colors are very good. A nice example of a button for the commemoration ceremonies meant to stress reconciliation and unity. [SR]
