Interesting image of an artillery train (line of horses, caissons, etc.) stopped on the Emmitsburg Road. Unit’s guidon flag is visible leaning against fence and soldiers wearing kepis and with stripes on trousers suggest this is possibly PA National Guard of the post-Civil War era. One monument is visible in distance; that being the 2nd New Hampshire monument in the Peach Orchard.
Dark brown mount measures 6 ½” x 4 ¼”. “W.H. Tipton photo. Gettysburg, Pa.” printed in gold along right edge of mount. Blank back with pen and ink note which is only partially readable. [jet]
