This is a fired example of a CS Read pattern shell. Shell is dug and in overall very good condition and exhibits mold seams on the sides and a deep lathe dimple on the bottom. The distinctive bands around the body of the shell are very pronounced. The lathe lug at the nose has also chipped off. The copper fuse adapter is in place, but has been damaged, possibly an early attempt to unload the shell. The brass sabot is intact, and shows rifling marks very well. Recovered from the Gettysburg battlefield. The shell has been deactivated, cleaned, and coated. [jet]
