Yellow mount showing two Massachusetts regimental monuments near the High Water Mark at Gettysburg. G. Somers & Co., publishers. Images focus on the monument to the 20th Mass. Infantry. The monument is a large boulder known as a “Puddingstone,” native to Massachusetts and the official stone of the Commonwealth. It was brought for the monument’s dedication from Roxbury, where many of the men of the regiment had played on such boulders as they grew up. The monument was dedicated on October 20th, 1885.
The monument to the 19th Maine is visible in the background. “1465. 20th Mass., 19th Maine Inf., Vermont Monument and Little Round Top, from Bloody Angle, Gettysburg, Pa.” Some light soiling. Light wear to edges of mount. [jet]
