Wood souvenir pocket knife is stamped in black ink, “GETTYSBURG/ GOODE / JULY 1,2,3, 1863 / VALLEY OF DEATH”, indicating where the wood was recovered from to make knife.
John Goode was a Gettysburg cabinetmaker who worked on wood projects for many of the local residents. He was a prominent assembler of relic displays and owned a small shop on Race Horse Alley off Chambersburg Street.
Measures 5” by 1 ¼”. Shows a couple of small dings and light surface scratches. [SL]
