This image was taken at Camp Quay in 1904. The camp was situated in the fields of Pickett’s Charge along the Emmitsburg Road. This image shows the 8th Regiment Pennsylvania Infantry drawn up in three lines with Field Officers mounted in front of the unit. The image was taken from the top of a railroad car on the tracks that once crossed the battlefield in this area. The view is looking southwest. The woods in the distance behind the regiment are the woods Pickett’s Division came out of at the start of their famous charge on July 3, 1863. Old paper label attached to the center bottom of the mount reads “8TH REG. N. G. OF PENNA. TAKEN AT CAMP QUAY 1904.” The image size is 17.50 x 5.75 inches. Including the mount the overall size is 19.75 x 8.50 inches. The back of the mount has a modern paper label telling exactly where Camp Quay was located. Item is in good condition.
