Inside of circa 1895 box reads, “These bullets were carried in late civil war being packaged of ten rounds – forty rounds were carried Frank Erskine gave them to HBN 1895”. There are six paper wrapped cartridges, all in excellent condition except for one which is missing its outer wrapper exposing powder charge and lead bullet. Also in the package are a number of percussion caps with wrapper. The outer original packet paper is also inside the box.

Frank Erskine was an 18 year old resident of Abington, MA when he enlisted as a private on 6/15/61; on that date he mustered into Co. K, 7th MA Infantry. Mustered out on 6/27/64 at Taunton, MA. After the war he resided in Whitman, MA, where he was a member of GAR Post #78 (David Russell). He died on 1/9/1918.
