A Pattern 1852 Navy officer's belt rig. Engraved on the backside of the tongue is: "Masters Mate J.W. Davis Potomac Flotilla 1864". The belt and one remaining trace (sword hanger) are made of folded and stitched leather. Complete with sliding belt loop. Much of the stitching on this belt has separated. There are also numerous, very small holes located in the leather appearing like worm holes. The tongue and wreath belt plate is an excellent example of the early, U.S. Navy, pre-Civil War plate and has matching bench marks: "25". All other brass components are present and in good shape: ring, rivet, snap-hook, "J" hook, and adjuster buckle. The belt is in overall good condition; soft and pliable; but missing the short trace. There are the usual cracks and wrinkles. This rig needs some TLC but is very displayable and identified! [JET]
