Sword has components of French manufacture but a Solingen style blade. Brass guard has an even patina with no condition issues.  Pommel is engraved, “J.C. Molloy / 63rd Regt / Irish / Brigade”.  John Cook Molloy mustered in Dec 7, 1861 as a First Lt. and mustered out February 13, 1862 at the same rank.

Sharkskin grip and wire are in great condition.  Blade has light etch that is clearly visible.  Blade has some staining to both side of the blade towards the tip.  Obverse blade etch is fan foliate / stand of arms / foliate / Eagle / foliate - stand of arms - foliate.  Reverse blade is the same except a large “US” replaces the Eagle.  Scabbard is leather with a back seam. It has some crazing and leather loss but overall is in sound condition.  Top brass mount might have had a suspension ring at one time but it cannot be confirmed.  Top mount has a decorative frog stud for attachment , no middle mount and a brass drag.   All patina on the brass matches the guard.
