WONDERFUL OIL PAINTING OF AN OHIO SOLDIER

$650.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 740-575

Very nice framed oil painting of 2nd Lieutenant William H. Farrand, 60th Ohio Infantry. The painting is oil on canvas, is oval in shape and meas. approx. 12.75 inches across x 15.75 inches tall. The canvas is still mounted on the original stretcher which has four new nails holding it to the outer frame, however the outer frame does appear to be original to the piece. The outside edges of the frame are a dark walnut color with a gold inner border around the painting. Including the frame overall measurements are 17.50 inches wide x 20.50 inches tall.

The image is a bust view of Farrand wearing a forage cap, frock coat and bow-tie. Barely visible on the front of the cap is a letter “E” and the number “60.” The colors on the painting remain strong and should really come to life after a good cleaning which is needed. The top layer of varnish displays some crackling along the left side and bottom.

There is writing on the back of the canvas some of which reads:

“Willy Farrand

Auburn Hair

Eyes blue-gray

Light flesh complexion

Letters on cap E

60”
