Black leather title and author labels stamped in gilt. Each volume bears title page signature: “J.L. Chamberlain/ Bangor Theo.[logical], Sem.[inary]/ 1852”.
Following graduation from Bowdoin College, Chamberlain attended the Bangor, ME, Theological Seminary, before returning to Bowdoin as a professor, soon after to become Colonel of the 20th Maine, which he would lead to glory at Gettysburg, in defense of Little Round Top, receiving a Congressional Medal of Honor.
