Black memorial card shows gold gilt lettering and images. Tribute reads, “IN LOVING REMEMBRANCE OF CAPT. H.H. ROSENGRANTZ, CO. D, 33d ILL. INF. DIED MAY 3, 1892. AGED 54 YRS.” Below this is a poem.
Wood frame is painted gold. Measures 5 ¾” by 8”. A nail hole is present through the top of frame. There are two chips on the front of the frame.
Hiram H. Rosengrantz was a resident of Springfield IL. At the age of 24 years, he enlisted as a private on 11/15/1861. On 11/15/1861 he mustered into "D" Co. IL 33rd Infantry. He re-enlisted on 1/1/1864. He was mustered out on 11/24/1865 at Vicksburg, MS. He was listed as hospitalized on 3/2/1865 at New Orleans, LA in St. Louis Hospital. He was injured on 3/2/1865 in a railroad accident (place not stated). He returned to service on 3/7/1865 (place not stated). He was promoted to Captain on 9/12/1864. Rosengrantz died in 1892 in Grant, NE. [sl]
