This full color register comes in the original wood frame with wood back panels and meas. approx. 21.50 x 26.50 inches.

The decoration on the register begins with a spread-winged eagle at top with a “USA” patriotic shield with panoply of flags. Beneath this is a battle scene. This in turn is flanked by a scene of a soldier sleeping in camp dreaming of his wife at home and under that is a scene of soldiers writing home. The opposite side depicts a wife sleeping dreaming about her husband at war and below that is a scene of her getting a letter from the front. Beneath this upper decoration is the company roster in three columns with each being separated by a decorative stanchion. The first column lists the Privates with notations such as discharged, wounded etc.…, the second column lists Company officers, Sergeants, Field & Staff and former officers while the third column lists the remainder of the Privates and the names of recruits. The very bottom of the piece has the muster in date and place flanked by a scene of the soldier leaving for war and another scene showing his home coming. Each scene is flanked by a list of battles that the 6TH Vermont took part in from April 1862 to November of 1863.

The surface of the register is in good condition with a faint water stain at top center and right.

The 6th Vermont was part of the Vermont Brigade consisting of the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th Vermont Infantry. The 6th saw action on the Peninsula at Lee’s Mill, Golding’s Farm Savage’s Station, Crampton’s Gap, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Salem Church, Gettysburg, Wilderness, Spotsylvania, Cold Harbor Monocacy, Winchester, Fisher’s Hill, Cedar Creek and Petersburg.

A nice memorial to a hard-fought regiment.  [ad]
