Brown cloth covers showing light wear. Spin badly chipped. Runs 457 pages with a 21 page Appendix. Inside front cover in period ink is “J. W. Mason, Col. 6th Reg. N. G. S. N. Y.” The Colonels name is repeated under this in pencil. On the next page a list of Companies with strengths.

Colonel Joel W. Mason was commissioned into the Field and Staff of the 6th on May 14, 1861as a 1st Lt. and Adjutant. He was mustered out on July 31, 1861. He was mustered in again as Colonel on May 22, 1863 and was mustered out on July 22, 1863. Though the regiment was Federalized twice they saw no fighting.
