Here is a very fine, original, miniature oval oil painting executed on ivory that shows Marie Therese De Savoie, Countess of Savoy (1819-1864). The painting measures 2 1/8” high x 1 7/8” wide and is an 19th century (circa 1850), hand painted image done on a oval piece of ivory and enclosed in a 4” high x 3¼” wide ivory frame. The artist is unknown but likely Italian. Marie Therese De Savoie, the eldest daughter of Charles Ferdinand, the French Duke of Berry (younger son of King Charles X of France and his wife Carolina of Naples and Sicily, daughter of King Francis I of the Two Sicilies), was a Duchess and later regent of Parma. She was born at the Royal Palace in Turin, Italy.
Image is a fine, highly detailed, miniature, chest-view painting edged with a thin, raised brass border and centered into a frame made up of individual tapered lengths of ivory which all point to the center image. Glued to the backside of frame is period paper that exhibits Italian writing and a small stamp with a handwritten note that reads “Countess D’Artois”. A very attractive keepsake.
