CDV view of a little girl with “Shirley Temple” like curls wearing a stripped dress and posing barefoot by a balustrade. She stands with her arms crossed at the waist and is looking down and away from the camera. The bottom of the mount is printed with the explanation. The subject is FANNIE VIRGINIA CASSEOPIA LAWRENCE. The text continues “A REDEEMED SLAVE CHILD, 5 YEARS OF AGE. REDEEMED IN VIRGINIA BY CATHARINE S. LAWRENCE; BAPTIZED IN BROOKLYN, AT PLYMOUTH CHURCH, BY HENRY WARD BEECHER, MAY, 1863.” Beneath this description is the publication information which dates the image to 1863. The image is clear with good contrast but there is moderate surface dirt throughout. The reverse is blank except for a blue tax revenue stamp.
