CDV is a three-quarter sitting view of Benjamin A. Drake. He is wearing a dark colored frock coat and vest, light colored trousers, white shirt and cravat. His forage cap rests on his crossed legs.

The reverse has a photographer’s imprint which reads, “CROSS PHOTGRAPHER, E.T. RICHARDSON, VA.”.

Image is clear and the contrast is good. Surface has some light dirt from age. Image has yellowed with time.

Benjamin A. Drake was born in 1841 and was a resident of Weston, MA where he worked as a farmer. He enlisted at the age of 22, on August 28, 1862 as a Private, and on September 12 he was mustered into Co. “I”, 44th MA Infantry. He was mustered out on June 18, 186 at Readville, MA. On August 18, 1864 he mustered into Co. “D”, 4th MA Heavy Artillery. He was mustered out on June 17, 1865 at Washington, D.C. After the war, Drake was a member of GAR Post #10 (George H. Ward) in Worchester, MA. Drake died in 1903 and is buried in Hope Cemetery in Worcester.    [sm]
