CDV is bust view of Marcus M. Bartlett of the 1st Massachusetts Heavy Artillery and the 14th Massachusetts Heavy Artillery. He sports a goatee and is wearing a dark frock coat. Image has faded period ink inscription that reads “TRULY YOURS MARCUS M. BARTLETT QM CO. K 14TH MASS. HEAVY ARTILLERY.” Image is clear with good contrast. Image and mount have light surface dirt. Reverse has photographers imprint for R. W. ADDIS…WASHINGTON, D.C.

Marcus M. Bartlett was born on August 14, 1839 in Kingston, New Hampshire. He was a 22 year old Painter living in Lawrence, Mass. when he enlisted as a Private on July 5, 1861 in Company K, 1st Massachusetts Heavy Artillery. He was appointed Quarter Master Sergeant on May 1, 1862 and 1st Sergeant on March 1, 1864. He was wounded at Spotsylvania on May 19, 1864. He was mustered out on July 8, 1864.

The 1st Massachusetts Heavy Artillery was raised as the 14th Infantry, was changed to artillery and then the designation changed to the 1st Heavy Artillery.
