The fragment of cloth in this display originated from a larger section of a flag remnant that originated from the US flag that flew over Fort Sumter on April 14, 1861 that was lowered by Major Robert Anderson and traveled the US during the war on exhibit to raise funds for the war and again raised above the fort by now General Anderson and traveled the US during the war on exhibit to raise funds for the war and again raised above the fort by now General Anderson on April 14th, 1865 in celebration of the Union victory. The remnant belonged to Union General John Wilder and came from the estate of his granddaughter, Ann Wilder Stratton. The last owner of this remnant was noted naval historian and collector Paul Dehaan from whom this remnant was acquired. The remainder of this flag is on display at the Fort Sumter museum. The remnant had been displayed in 2007 at the Louisiana Archives Road Show at the Louisiana State Museum. Fragment measures approx. 7/8” x 7/8”.  Housed in an 11" X 14" display, double matted in royal blue suede with gold trim. All provenance material included with the certificate of authenticity. Unframed. Shipped shrink wrapped.
