Wooden box with dovetail construction on corners and hinged lid with compartmentalized interior. Exterior measurements are 22.75 inches long x 16.75 inches wide x 10.50 inches high with the lid closed. Lid is approx. 0.75 of an inch thick and made of three pieces of uneven width. The bottom is made of the same. The body of the box, front, back and both sides, are made from one piece of wood all 1.00 inch thick.

The outside of the box is painted an ox-blood brown with “VENEREAL PROPHYLAXIS UNIT” stenciled across the lid in 1.00 inch high white letters. All lettering is strong.

Each end of the box has a painted red cross at center that meas. approx. 3.00 x 3.00 inches. One is a little stronger than the other but both are visible.

Lid is attached with iron strap hinges that are screwed to the back exterior of the box and the underside of the lid. Front of the lid and box have a hasp lock.

Interior wood surface is unpainted. The underside of the lid has two 2.50 inch wide x 14.00 inch long x 1.00 inch thick wood reinforcing strips with beveled edges. Each of these are held in place by six alternating iron screws. The interior of the box itself has one plain 0.50 inch wide wood divider creating a small compartment of approx. 7.50 inches and a larger one of 13.00 inches.

The box is in very nice condition both inside and out.
