ARSENAL MARKED 1881 METCALF BELT WITH ACCESSORIES

$495.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: M24034

This leather belt is in good condition. The leather exhibits a good bit of surface dirt from age and storage but is otherwise good. The leather is clearly stamped “ROCK ISLAND ARSENAL” in to lines.

The black leather belt meas. approx. 1.75 inches wide x 48.75 inches long. It has a flat brass frame buckle on one end and a brass “D” ring on the other. The tongue of the belt is attached by the buckle. When worn the tongue passes through the “D” shaped cinch ring and tightened around the waist. The tongue then passes through the frame buckle and is anchored.

Attached to the bottom edge of the belt are four “D” rings. The first two hold detachable leather drops for a saber. Both of these are present. The next two rings are for attaching the pistol holster. The holster is attached to the belt by a 7.50 x 1.50 inch strip of leather with two heavy brass hooks on each end. The two hooks pass through the two “D” rings and the holster is slipped on over the leather strip.

The section of belt between the last two rings and the cinch has four grommet holes. These holes are used to attach a 7.75 x 6.00 inch piece of leather with nine heavy canvas ammunition tubes sewn to it. These tubes hold .45 pistol ammunition which is present with the belt.

This belt was discontinued in 1885 with only 2600 being manufactured.

All the parts of the belt are in good serviceable condition and the only piece that appears to be missing is the leather thong used to attach the ammunition carrier.
