Presented here is a fine pair of heavy, cast iron stirrups in excellent original condition. These artifacts are government-issued and marked on each piece with “MD Co. / U S.” The stirrups measure 5¾” high by 4 3/8” wide. Each stirrup has a 1¾” wide tread that features an elongated opening 4½” long x 1” wide inset into the tread surface. The tread exhibits a raised, sharp front and rear edge on each stirrup. Each of the stirrups exhibits a pleasing rust-brown patina overall. A nice pair of early 20th century iron artillery stirrups. [RA]
