Measuring about 38 inches long, to the tip of the hook, and 1 1/8 inches wide, these slings conserved leather and brass by using a simple double wire hook on one end and leather only for the standing loop on the other end and for a separately sewn strip with fastening holes for the hook.

This example is solid, but the strip with the fastening holes has been lost over time, though the box stitching that secured it at either end is still there. The hook is in place, as is the standing leather loop, which shows some crazing to the surface. The strap has some scattered stains and dirt, but is solid and shows just minor fraying where the linen strap is folded over to secure the hook. The overall color is light brown, with the leather showing a darker brown. There are no tears to the linen or breaks to the leather and it displays very well.  [sr]
