A non-excavated example of the regulation U.S. infantry waistbelt plate prominently used from 1857 to 1872. This example contains the “Arrow hook” type fasteners, which was adopted in 1863 superseding the stud “Puppy Paw” type belt attachments of 1857.
This plate exhibits an overall medium-dark patina with very, very minor dings & dents around the outer edges. All of the lead backing is present and hooks and tongue are in undamaged condition. A nice mid- to late Civil War example.
