LOUISIANA RECTANGULAR BUCKLE ON BELT

$5,500.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 801-163

Plate is stamped brass with lead filled back.

Face is clean with a light patina. The stamping of the pelican feeding her five chicks in a nest surrounded by oak wreath and stars has good detail. The details to the feathers of the pelican are clear and the five chicks are distinct. All stars are visible and even some details on the oak leaves can be discerned.

Reverse has 100% of the lead fill which is not finished as smoothly as on lead filled Northern plates. Soldered directly to the lead are two brass hooks and tongue.

Plate comes attached to a very worn Model 1851 waist belt made of bridle leather with sewn keeper on one end. Belt is very supple and crazed. A good bit of the surface finish is gone but there are no rips or tears in the belt.

A truly rare plate in excellent condition.
