Here is an original, issued Model 1839 small pattern U.S. buckle. The buckle is the early small size with only two hooks, measuring 2 ¾” x 1 ½”. Buckle shows definite use with scratches on the face and small dings around the raised rim.
Complete lead in back. Maker-marking “H.A. DINGEE” is mostly visible with a small divot carved in the center of where the name is stamped.
This is a nice early US buckle. [jet]
