This is a very nice looking southern veteran. The overall appeal of this canteen is excellent. The wood has a wonderful rich dark untouched patina and aside from some minor scratches is in excellent condition.
The body meas. approx. 7.50 inches across x 2.25 inches wide. Both iron retaining bands are present as are the three iron sling-keepers. All the iron surfaces have a matching dark patina to go along with the wood. There is no spout or stopper.
The leather sling is present and in fair condition. It looks to be all there but is broken in one spot and is fragile. The size of the sling was adjusted by two roller buckles which are original to the piece.
This is a wonderful veteran canteen that no doubt was in the field. All the wear on the item is consistent with an item that has seen use.
