A complete Civil War period smooth body canteen that was issued by the New York depot 1862-65.
This example is still fully covered in its (now faded and worn) sky blue colored wool-satinet cloth. The cotton sling is also present and in somewhat worn condition as well. The stopper is present, but is missing the iron attachment chain. Located at the lower area of the canteen (at about 6 o’clock & 8 o’clock) are some worn through spots of the cover showing the bright tin surface beneath. There are also slightly dented areas locate in the center of this canteen opposite to each other under the covering.
